ABOUT

Resume and Biography of
Danny (Danny Who) Anderson
My name is Danny Anderson. I have been a musician for over 40 years, starting in “Garage Bands” in the mid 60’s. My instrument of choice is the guitar, but also quite efficient with mandolin, banjo, bass, and drums. I do play some piano, but mostly for my own pleasure, and song writing.
As a “side man”, my first experience in the studio was in 1967, with a band called The Fifth Order. After placing first place in a “Battle of the Bands” sponsored by BBF Restaurants in Columbus Ohio, at 17 years old, we won, and recorded a 45 record, A and B side, which rose to the top 10 at 1230 WCOL AM. There was no FM radio back then, and this was the top station at the time in Columbus.
After graduating from high school in 1968, I joined the Marines, and served my country in Viet Nam. After six and a half months in Bethesda Naval Hospital, I was discharged from service.
Upon my arrival back to Columbus, I joined various bands, touring across the mid-west. Also, I played on many TV and Radio commercials, for Wendy’s Restaurants, Lazarus Department Stores, Swallons Electronics, and many more small businesses, providing jingles, and lyrics.
In 1982, I moved to Tampa Florida, and joined an Elvis Tribute Band, and toured the state. In 1984 I started my single act. I was managed by the legendary “Rock of Ages” agency, and was eventually managed by the owner himself; Mr. Joe Larson. With Joe, I not only was able to enjoy the benefits of a house gig at The Top of the Spray in West Palm Beach, but also was the featured entertainment at The Breakers Hotel in their lounge on their New Years Eve Bash, along with many national acts that played in various ball rooms. It was also Joe that promoted me in the Cruise Ship market, booking my single act with Carnival Cruise Lines, for 3, 7, and 14 day cruises.
In 1987, I moved back to Columbus, and was approached right away by a high school friend of mine, Gary Vann. He was a booking agent for Kapson and Kates Entertainment, and then formed American Performers with Mike Kapson, the largest and most well known agency in Columbus at the time. With Gary in control, I played the next 11 years, touring the hotel circuit in 22 states. During that time, I would come home every 5 to 6 months to visit family and friends. To my surprise, I was voted “best entertainer” in Columbus 1993 and 1994. I was very humbled with this honor, for it was the doing of Gary, and all my musical friends. With only setting in with my friends in their bands a couple times a year I still couldn’t believe I was remembered, let alone honored. I’ll cherish it forever.
Throughout my years on the road, I was also able to fill in as a side player for the likes of Mellissa Ethredge and Arlo Guthrie, as time and scheduling allowed. In 1998, I returned home for good, returning to the local scene, hosting jams and playing anywhere with anyone who would have me. I finally settled into 2 house gigs. One at the Harley Hotel, for Happy Hour, Monday through Friday, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at the Club 20. I did this for over 3 years, and finally gave it up, for I had no social life, other than playing, and it was finally taking a toll on me. After my “break”, I started to play again as a front man for a couple of bands with great success. I also produced my first CD as a single act, and it is still available on the internet.
I moved to Las Vegas in 2006, in a new and exciting atmosphere. I continued to promote my single act, but also formed a 3 piece band, called Tongue & Groove with Jimmy Spinale on bass from Boston, Mass., and Mark Quinn on drums from St. George Utah, playing on the strip; at Harrah’s, The Joint at the Hard Rock, Sahara, and The Rio. By far, they are some of the best musicians I have ever worked with for some time.
In July, 2009, I returned to Columbus Ohio. With friends of mine, we reinstated our “Acoustic Barstool Jam”, at Rafter’s Bar and Grill, every Saturday, and India Oak Lounge on Tuesday evenings. Many players have played, and it was a blast.
I returned to Las Vegas in January, 2010, and regrouped with my old friends, continuing our band Tongue & Groove, until a health scare reevaluated my priorities. After successful treatments for cancer caused by Agent Orange, I returned to Columbus in November, 2011, for good. Now completely free of cancer, I am looking to form a new group of serious musicians, or join an existing band with professional attitude and presence.
