ABOUT

Performing in CT and a few outlying areas since the mid-1990s. Here is my complete resume of projects with which I have been involved:

Octokong (2021 - 2022): Original synthwave project in the vein of John Carpenter soundtracks and retrowave nostalgiacore. Wrote an album's worth of amazing music but the project was unexpectedly sidelined due to a personal tragedy for one of the band members.

The Future Heavies (2015 - 2021): A fun 1980s cover band which played a hundred gigs in venues, private events, and town gigs. The band is still playing a small handful shows but I left in 2021 to pursue other interests. I still sit on with them on very special occasions, including a Wesleyan College Alumni party in May of 2023.

The Royal Din (2012 - 2015): Half original, half cover alternative rock band. We played some pretty amazing shows and showcases, and recorded & distributed a CD of our original music.

Funk Brokers, Inc. (2010 - 2012): Funk cover band. We played a lot of swanky venues and decent town gigs with a full brass section. Groovy, baby.

Plastica (2000 - 2003, 2008 - 2012): 1980s cover band. Over the top show with tons of synthesizers, lasers, and costume-drenched mayhem. At least 100 gigs with this project, mostly late-nite bar gigs in central CT at places like the Blackstone, City Sports (nee Sports Rock), Shamrock, Red Door, etc. Good old days.

Driven (2004 - 2010): Balls-out rock/metal/pop/country cover band. Great party band playing some pretty heavy rock party tunes toward the end of the night. What was the keyboard player doing, you might ask? All the guitar solos on a keytar. Nobody complained!

CO2 (1998 - 2005): About 25% original heavy rock, with the rest of it a bloodbath of "The Rock 106.9 WCCC"-era face-punching. Godsmack, Disturbed, Linkin Park, SOAD, etc. No keytar in this band, I didn't have the balls for it yet. But I still played all the solos!

Goodhead (1996 - 1997): My first band in central CT was this fun party/cover band playing 1970s-1980s classic rock tunes. Cutting my teeth with organ work on "Smokin" and "Carry On My Wayward Sun" with vocalist Clark Denis who went on to sing in Diamondback with Jimi Bell on guitar. Pretty great start to a fun life onstage in CT. Hopefully whoever's reading this can be a part of my next chapter!

I'm currently not committed to any bands, although there is a mild chance of Octokong rising from the ashes someday, at least to record what we already wrote. I'm also currently working on my third all-original electronic/prog album under the moniker of Parallax.

EQUIPMENT

I have had the pleasure of owning & playing over a hundred keyboards since the '80s, with a collection which once clogged up my whole attic studio. Over the years I have gotten rid of most of the excess, just keeping what I know I can use onstage and in the studio:

Nord Electro 5D: The perfect sound for all the organics: Hammond, Rhodes, pianos, clavs.

Oberheim OB-X8: This brand new analog monster resides mostly in my friend's studio, but I have brought it to a gig or two. Nothing compares to an Oberheim for analog depth and warmth!

Roland JD-800: At one point I gigged out with nothing but three of these, but now it's just down to one custom-painted white one that I call "Gandalf". It's a wave-based digital synth which I use for signature solo shredding and very crisp synthwave layering. I also have a rackmount version (JD-990) for use as a dedicated sound source for keytar mayhem.

Korg TR-61: This banger of a keyboard has great ELP-level brass and absolutely perfect synth and strings tones, along with amazing solo sounds. Always in my live rig.

Korg Microkorg: Cool little red mini-synth with reverse black-and-red keys, with an unmistakeable MS-2000 engine. You can hear one playing the signature synth riff in "Mr. Brightside". I can dust it off if needed for bigger synth rigs.

KEYTARS: I have two Roland Axis-1 keytars from 1984. One of them is actually reliable, lol. The other one has a custom paint job and retrofitted for wireless performances, but I'll only bring it out for a really special occasion. This thing is covered in electroluminescent wire and is a total disaster to look at up close. But from 20 feet away with the lights down... it is basically a red "light cycle" from Tron. Probably best to save this for a band video...
