Lies (Metheny)Guitar Arrangement of fairly rare Pat Metheny tune... :)
Hotel CaliforniaI was inspired to arrange this after watching a documentary on The Eagles... A sort of baroque meets latin jazz performed by a poor man's Al Dimeola. Hopefully Glenn Frey won't "kick my ass"... haha.
El Molino De Viento (The Windmill)(Improvisation)
El Molino De Viento (The Windmill)(Improvisation)Perhaps it takes a certain amount of Quixotic "imagination" to fight the giants of improvisation... always an adventure. This time, I am joined briefly by my own "Sancho" who goes by the name of "Cato" (I really should close my door when I record... :) “Destiny guides our fortunes more favorably than we could have expected. Look there, Sancho Panza, my friend, and see those thirty or so wild giants, with whom I intend to do battle and kill each and all of them, so with their stolen booty we can begin to enrich ourselves. This is nobel, righteous warfare, for it is wonderfully useful to God to have such an evil race wiped from the face of the earth." "What giants?" Asked Sancho Panza. "The ones you can see over there," answered his master, "with the huge arms, some of which are very nearly two leagues long." "Now look, your grace," said Sancho, "what you see over there aren't giants, but windmills, and what seems to be arms are just their sails, that go around in the wind and turn the millstone." "Obviously," replied Don Quijote, "you don't know much about adventures.” ― Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Don Quixote

I Am Sasquatch (My musical Halloween costume)
I Am Sasquatch (My musical Halloween costume)Since Halloween is right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to create a sort of “musical Halloween costume” for my Soundcloud friends. The idea was to do something a bit “out of character” from my usual SC posts. Perhaps something weird and a bit spooky. My initial thought was of a more murderous/sinister take on good ol’ Sasquatch…. :) Music and lyrics: Derek Cornett I Am Sasquatch Dark forest or icy tundra Is that a beast? You wonder A crazy myth? (I don’t think so) You will soon sleep in the dust below BOO! I am the missing link But it’s not what you think A refugee from another world A strand of darkness from which mankind is furled You will not survive You will not survive You will not survive I AM SASQUATCH…. :)

E.A. Preston (Out Here In Oklahoma)A few years ago, I received this message on my answering machine. Was there really a hillbilly in Oklahoma named E.A. Preston? Hmmmm... sounds rather suspect if you ask me.... I decided to "drop some beats" (as the kids say) and have some fun with Mr. Preston...

Blue Rondo à la Turk (arr. for 4 guitars)
Blue Rondo à la Turk (arr. for 4 guitars)My arrangement of the Classic Dave Brubeck tune for four.... count 'em, four guitars. Brubeck heard this unusual rhythm performed by Turkish musicians on the street. Upon asking the musicians where they got the rhythm, one replied "This rhythm is to us, what the blues is to you." Hence the title "Blue Rondo à la Turk." The rhythm consists of three measures of 2+2+2+3 followed by one measure of 3 + 3 + 3 and the cycle then repeats. The piece is sometimes incorrectly assumed to be based on the Mozart composition "Rondo alla Turca." In 2003, during an interview, Dave Brubeck commented that "I should've just called it 'Blue Rondo', because the title just seemed to confuse people.
McKeownegans Wake (feat. Dave McKeown in a song about Dave McKeown)
McKeownegans Wake (feat. Dave McKeown in a song about Dave McKeown)Soundcloud Hero Dave McKeown is finally immortalized in a re-imagined Irish Drinking Song.... :) There once was a lad named Dave McKeown, who lived down by the sea. Although he was no sailor, down by the sea he be. He played his pipes for money, he played his pipes for free... ... and after a coupla pints of ale, he’d sing this melody... Chorus: Too Rah Loo... Too Rah La.... By the bra of Biddy McGraw... I am the finest piper-man this world has ever saw. One night whilst he was pipin’, he spied a bonny lass. She stepped down from the bar stool, and handed him a glass. A brilliant pint of black stuff, but poisoned, doncha’ see? A piper hatin’ woman... she “kilt” him serially. Chorus: Too Rah Loo... Too Rah La.... By the bra of Biddy McGraw... Murder-ed the best piper... ... the world has ever saw. No finer wake was given. The whiskey it did flow. A fight broke out and many a gobshite traded several blows. Someone threw a noggin’ of whiskey on Dave’s bed.... ... it woke him from his slumber, he rose right up and said.... Chorus: Too Rah Loo... Too Rah La.... By the bra of Biddy McGraw... What in thunderin’ blazes? Ye thought that I was dead? Chorus: Too Rah Loo... Too Rah La.... By the bra of Biddy McGraw... He is the greatest piper-man..... the world has ever saw!!!!
