I am largely a bluegrass 5-string Banjo Picker (lightning fast Scruggs style is my strength, as well as melodic Bill Keith style, and single string Don Reno style) I starting playing banjo, when I was 13 years old, and was playing all the Scruggs standards like Foggy Mtn Breakdown, Salty Dog Blues, Dear Old Dixie, Randy Lynn rag etc. at that age. I am looking for a fast driving tradional Bluegrass band to join to entertain northern audiences with these type of tunes, as Bluegrass Music is scarcely heard around the area, and is loved by practically everyone that I have encountered in my local playing experiences here in town. I am looking for clean sounding players with a good sense of timing, especially southern timing and the Southern sound. If inducted into a band I could trade off fairly easily between, lead guitar and 5-string banjo.
I also am a flatpicker, and crosspicker, and know a large variety of fiddle tunes and fast hitting novelty material. My guitar style is like Ricky Skaggs or perhaps Tony Rice. Very eighth notey, with long runs and fills. Basically, I play simple, but fast hard-hitting bluegrass. I am a relatively strong player in both of these instruments in this particular genre.
I played banjo for a short time with Seth Mulder and the Goose River Boys. We played professionally at many bluegrass festivals and city events in North Dakota.
Give me a call if you'd either like to pick or jam. Or for any other musically related reason that crosses your mind. I'm here to help, and I like to play with most anybody good or bad, just as long as they have a good personality.
