David began formal Drum lessons, September 1968 at "Conoga Music" under the teutelage of Mr. Ferrar. David progressed rapidly and Mr. Ferrar felt he needed a more advanced teacher by the early 1970's. In 1971 David began lessons at "Music Stop" owned by Jazz greats, Terry Gibbs & Mel Zelnick, on Sherman Way in Conoga Park Ca. David studied under Famous Drummers Henery and Louie Belson. David studied with the two famous drummers from 1971-1976. In 1971 David began performing in the "Valley Youth Symphony" Directed & Coducted By Dr. Thomas Osborne (Dean of the Pierce College Music Dept.). David left the "Valley Youth Symphony in 1979. During his tenure with the "Valley Youth Symphony" he became first seat percussionist. David toured, performed & recorded with the symphony for several years. During these years he performed selctions from Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and several other "Classical and Baroque" composers. Most notably "The Sorcerers Apprentice" by Dukas. Made popular by Walt Disney in the film "Fantasia". In 1979 David was asked to join friends Mark Davis, Dean Gessiel, & Singer John Gurrell, in their Rock Band "Excursion". They played several local Highschool events and parties. Shortly after joining "Excursion" the band underwent a personnel change. Dean & John left the group. Bryan Alkire ( Bass & Keyboards ) replaced Dean Gessiel, and Jhonny Blaze replaced singer John Gurrell. The Band was reborn as "IRONWING". In 1980 more personnell changes brought Bassist Scott McCully and Guitarist Ron Broad into the group. Followed by a name change to "Scavenger" This band incarnation used Guest singers at various venues in the Hollywood music scene. And received Air Play and acclaim on KLOS Los Angeles, by Uncle Joe Benson. 1983 brought David an oprotunity to play with local greats Jim Preist, Don Moore,Jeff Maine, and Paul Roselle of "Henchmn". During the next few months many personnell changes brought Scott McCully, Ron Broad, back to the group. They played as stapel regulars at such venues as "The World famous Gazzari's" , " TheTroubador" , "The Roxy" , "The Whiskey", "Coconut Teasers" and The world famous "Wolfe & Rissmillers Country Club". The Band took on the name "BFD", and played for the Olympics celebration televised on NBC from the Los "Angeles Indian Center". Notable recording projects done at " Harlequin Sound & Recording Studios" in Northridge Ca. Engineered by Gary Dulac, who worked on projects such as "Black Sabbath's" "Mob Rules" and " Heaven & Hell". Harlequin Studios was owned by the legendary vocalist Ronnie James Dio. June 22nd 1986 David left "BFD" to attend Music Institute in Hollywood. David received an education from the "Percussion Institue of Technology" school at "MI". David broke his leg and was unable to finish his studies. David recieved an education in record engineering from the owner of Poeima studios in Camarillo Ca. David re-formed "IRONWING" with Scott Stenkes, Jim Maropoulos in 1988. Soon afterward David began playing in multiple rock bands. Some of which were "War lox" and "Sub Proffesionals" with Mike Williams & Chris Carney. These groups brought a reappearance of Scott McCully. David began jamming in 1989 with Joey Gaines, Scott McCully and Chris Carney in the seminal years of the band "HoneyQuick". In 1990 David moved to Roswell New Mexico, and left the West Coast music scene. While in Roswell, David formed several incarnations of his namesake band "IRONWING". But most notably joined the band "UnChained", a local New Mexico band with a large following. "Unchained's" line up included; Bass player Robert Evans, Singer Jay Maclaine & Guitarist Paul Mysza. David returned to So Cal in 1998, David and Mike Williams formed the band "Violent Dick". For several recording projects. "Violent Dick" is still recording today. During these past few years David has also been recording with "Guitar Virtuoso" Kelly Stevens at "StraightJacket Studios". David has formed and performed in several "Native American Bands". While David recorded with "Exit Wound", Paul Underwood's Band. They were nominated for best "Debut Artist and Best Instrumental Recording & Best Blues Recording, at" The Native Music Awards" in 2007. David performed with the "Native American Band" "Black Raven". "Black Raven features Dan Hicks on Native American Flute,Kiriel on Native American Flute, Didgeree Doo & Hand Percussion, David Iron Wing on Congas & Bongos, Gonzo Sandoval on Jembey, Phil Sandoval on Guitars. They received 2009 "Instrumental Artist of the Year" award at the Pheonix Music Awards. The "Instrumental Album of the Year" at the 2009 Los Angeles Music Awards. In 2008, Joey Gaines, contacted David and the current line up of "HoneyQuick" was formed. "HoneyQuick" has played at all the hot spots in Hollywood since reforming. David has a notable tie to Nashville in his friendship with Thom Bresh, 2002 "Thumb Pickers" Hall of Fame inductee and son of "Guitar Legend" MerleTravis.Merle Travis is the co-inventor and famed player of the "Bigsby" electric guitar. The "Bigsby" was built by famous engineer and luthier Paul Bigsby. And is widely accepted as the first solid body electric guitar. Merle Travis is credited with coining the phrase "Rock and Roll". And his style was copied by guitar greats as diverse as "The Beatles" to "Brian Setzer" of the "Stray Cats". Merle influenced such greats as Chet Atkins, MerleHaggard, & Bare foot Jerry Reed.
