ABOUT

Howdy. I'm an elder (57) retired DDS and have played guitar with various levels of commitment since I was 7. I'm still not great, so I have to practice. I play a soulful blues harp and have been known to sit in with a band for a tune or two. Recently built a cigar box 6 string I keep tuned in open G for "Kieth" songs, and my Epiphone acoustic is currently tuned to open E. My Dean 12 string acoustic is in Drop D, but I do have a Washburn and '63 Gretch in standard. I've done a bunch of open mics over the years, had an acoustic gig while in dental school with a pal, and passed around the fire pit house guitar while running a BnB in the 90's. I played keyboards in my HS rock band, but only know basic chords. I would love to build a 10-20 song set with someone(s) of the songs that still inspire me, while I'm still mentally capable of remembering the lyrics. I can sing but all my main rigs are tuned two steps down to better fit my aged register.

Influences

Songs I've recently figured out in the past 2-3 weeks:
Stones- you got the silver, prodigal son, tumbling dice, honky tonk women, love in vain.
Dylan-meet me in the morning, you're a big girl now, isis
N.Young- Campaigner, for the turnstyles
Led Zeppelin-thats the way, when the levy breaks, Misty mountian stomp
EL&P-still you turn me on
Rod Stewart-Mandolin wind, Gasoline Alley
Steve winwood- can't find my way home
Skynyrd- Tuesdays gone
Jerry Reed-Amos Moses
O brother sound track- man of constant sorrow
Laurel/hardy- trail of the lonesome pine (cover)

I like old stones (beggers banquet), greatful dead (workingman's dead), The Faces/Ron Wood (wish it would rain cover), lesser known Dylan, stones, Zepplin acoustic -open tuning (tangerine). Delta/acoustic blues (I play some slide)
I like off the wall fun songs, and even thought of doing a radio bit, like "Ajax Liqour Store" in between songs. If you don't know it...look it up.
They don't make fun innocent little songs like "spiders and Snakes" or "The Streak", or "Hot Rod Lincoln etc anymore. I think there's a market for some unserious music infused with music that grabs your heart.
I'd like to play better lead/ slide guitar. Tough when my musical neighbors are still trying to figure out the cowboy chords.
