I'm a senior in high school, I've been playing drums for about 8 years now. I've played many different types of music including 5 years in a concert band, 3 years in a jazz band, and roughly 2 years screwing around with my friends.
I haven't been in a serious band yet, however I am definitely ready for one. I was taught how to play drums in North Haven at Minotti's Music by a drummer named Rob whom played on Broadway for a number of years, recorded jingles for commercials, and teaches at Chesire Academy. I was taught how to read rhythmic music- sheet music for snare, bass, and set- but I was also taught rudiments, I completed the book Stick Control which emphasized many rudiments. I have now moved on to teach myself Accents and Rebounds. I play drums close to everyday, about an hour if not more, I love this instrument. I've covered many songs from artists including Incubus, Dave Matthews Band, Blink-182, Breaking Benjamin, a couple of songs from Dream Theater, and various other artists. I prefer to play funk, fusion, rock, alternative, or metal, however I do know how to play jazz, swing, contemporary, etc. I learned to pick up music by ear from listening to Sly and the Family Stone, which was introduced to me by my drum teacher.
I don't take lessons anymore, but as aforementioned I do indeed still play. I am planning to attend college next year most likely in New York. But I am still interested in potential opportunities.
