I've been playing drums for 23 years and most of that time was spent in bands, but getting acquainted with each new person's idiosyncrasies and having to start from scratch every 2 or 3 years when a project fell apart got to be exhausting. Right now, I'm enjoying the jam session phase of my life, which has been good for honing my listening and improv skills, but I get my jollies from developing songs as a group and REALLY honing them prior to recording. Live shows can be fun when they don't feel like a waste of time, so I'd rather focus on quality than quantity, but they're not a source of motivation for me. I do have a long-time bass player friend who might be interested in joining any hypothetical opportunities, but that's not a given. It'd be nice to find someone who knows their way around keys and/or a guitarist with a unique style. The main thing for me is to find people who: are respectful of other people's time, know how to communicate effectively, are proficient enough on their instrument (I'm no virtuoso), take care of their equipment, and are easy to hang out with. I'm pretty open to genres, but would need to hear some samples first. I understand that not everyone has a professional recording studio, but anyone should be able to cut a demo with current technology.
