ABOUT

My actual band experience is primarily in metal and classic rock style music, but I have a love for acoustic/folky music that is just as strong. I was in a long-running but intermittent group and have recorded/released numerous albums. We weren't hugely famous, but were definitely influential.
I'm more intersted these days in finding a female singing/recording partner to work on music that is outside of that area, hopefully with dual lead vocals where we are finishing each other's lines, singing harmony, layering tracks, etc. Maybe delving into the vibe of Hawkwind's Space Ritual... Covers and originals.
A few years in, my band at the time got a small record deal which brought me to a real recording studio. I fell in love, and realized that if I worked in one of these places I'd be able to make records for free, but on a professional level. I went back to school for audio engineering and it turned out to be a good career move. I've spent the last 25 years working in major studios, and learned how to record, mix and master with high-end consoles and equipment.
Along the way, I've managed to sing and play with a pretty cool mix of classic rock legends. I love working with older musicians who have been playing way longer than myself, as they tend to have a better feel, at least in the rock world. I'm also liking working with younger musicians whose influences are disparate from mine, as it gives a good field for exchanging ideas and concepts and I'm really open to dabbling in other genres, like current music seems to do. I'm hoping someday to also be in a classic rock cover band, whether its as a full-time member or just sitting in.
I'm not averse to being in an original metal band again, but my tastes in metal are pretty narrow. I can't sing to anything remotely thrashy. I'm strictly retro when it comes to actual metal. And by retro I mean like proto-metal from the sixties and seventies.
I could really bring a lot to a project, but I'm more interested in a new project going in different directions. I doubt I'll be gigging any time soon so I'd really like to do more recording and experimenting vs. trying to put a band together. Part of the reason why I'm reticent to join a metal band again is that I have zero tolerance for meathead guys and their macho bullsh*t, and in metal it's pretty hard to find people that don't have those issues. I do put my all into everything I do, though so anything that piques my interest I would put my whole heart into.
Since Covid started, I've been recording vocals whenever I can and feel like I've really expanded my range from what I was capable of six months ago, so hopefully someone hears something in my voice that resonates.
I've been in many band situations with all kinds of people and I'm pretty quick to suss out if I can work with someone. I'm drama-free and focused on doing this for what to me are the right reasons, a love of music, and a yearning for exploration. I've been paid to sing and play and made some reasonable money from my work over the years, but people that are primarily in this to try and make money and get attention vs. trying to make art won't mesh with me at all.
I hope so much to find a female musical collaborator/singer of any age to work with.
