ABOUT

I grew up in Chapel Hill, studied theatre and classical training of voice, but also had two older sisters who got me into all the 60's music, then I was a product of the late 70's unfortunate disco movement...I am a substance abuse counselor, but also studied theatre in Berkeley, did a lot of plays in SF and NYC, got into Cabaret in NYC, and never stopped loving to sing. THen I started writing, recording, and using my piano training to finally learn to improvise enough to compose. I'm practicing on my piano with my amp, mike, and though not so technically inclined, am learning more everyday. I love so much of what I hear today, and the singer-songwriter style comeback. I listen to anything and everything from Rap to Hip Hop to Tony Bennett, to Ray Montagne, music from the 30's, 40's, 50's, etc...and am always open to new styles. I want to expand my vocal and piano improv abilities which I do on my own, and through teachers. I NEED to find collaborators to work with who have a great attitude, commitment, and a sense of humor. I also run, do yoga, act and love to go to the theatre, to concerts, and have a lot of FUN. I don't smoke, but I'm not judgmental if you do. Just please be openminded, and want to have fun, but also share ideas, lyrics, (I LOVE TO WRITE!!) and be more technically inclined than I am.

Influences

I've been in love with music since I was....probably before I was born. I started singing at 8, performing in musicals by 11, began as a voice major at UNC CH, but all those Italian arias drove me to the theatre department. However, I grew up listening to Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Linda Rondstadt, Jackson Browne, Grateful Dead, and so many others...Motown...Stevie Wonder..Jewel, Regina Spector, and so many more vocalists and bands that I can't even name them all...Band of Horses, Adele, Trisha Yearwood...so many different genres, as long as they have something to say.

EQUIPMENT

amplifier, mike, upright piano, electric keyboard, audiobox, piano mike, guitar, voice (it is an instrument), and of course a computer that allows me to use Audacity, and learn any other systems I can be taught or teach myself. I need more updated equipment of course, but it's amazing how far you can go with a voice, great mike and piano.
