Emma Garell:

Life lessons usually come from our parents and one in particular that came from Richmond, VA based Emma Garell’s mother has stuck with her:

“It takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something.”

So began the journey into the land of rock-n-roll for Emma Garell.

Having grown up watching Hannah Montana, with most musical experiences drawn from her parent’s speaker, Emma soon discovered that the real rock bomb came from Joan Jett, Alanis Morissette, and The Pretty Reckless. And finally at 14, to the discovery of Ozzy Osbourne as she performed for the first time in a Black Sabbath Tribute Show in front of 200 people. Describing her style as “Hard Rock to Soft Metal, influenced by classic metal,” the identification of who she was within the rock scene was solidified through experiencing Them Evils and Tyler Bryant and realizing that the sound she was creating had a vast audience.

Emma grew up using her singing voice to speak for her. She lulls the listener into a sense of whispered magic, then out of nowhere, she belts with the power of the greats. Having a wide range of vocal gifts, she will surprise you with her array of musical styling all within the power of a haunting voice.

After graduating from School of Rock RVA she quickly became the youthful rock powerhouse that Richmond was missing. Originally forming and fronting her cover band Bismuth (2017-18) with Eli Gilmer (guitar), Alex Knickelbein (bass) and Riley Beynon (drums) she found it necessary to break off on her own and find her own sound. In September 2018 she teamed up with Andrew Rohlk (guitar), CJ Alicea (drums) and Sammy P. Stiles (bass) and started to develop her own sound. And most recently welcomes Camden Harrahy on lead guitar after Andrew left to tour with another band.

With the release of her debut single, "Destination Anaheim," Emma Garell is stepping into the rock spotlight with the strength and confidence of her role models and a freshly honed vocal style. Fans can look forward to more singles and a full length album over the next year, as well as continuing to perform locally with the biggest bands coming through RVA.
