I'm currently playing in a '60s tribute band that is my first priority. However, I can make room for the right side-project as long as my current gig is given deference.
I'm a bass player by trade, but can play serviceable rhythm guitar and simple leads. I am a decent background singer and can sing some lead as long as the bass/guitar part isn't too demanding. I'd be into forming a cover band focused on Power Pop and Pop Punk or '80s alt/college rock (REM, Hoodoo Gurus, English Beat, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, etc). I want to play stuff that rocks, has great melody, and gets people moving. Again, any project has to be secondary to the 60s band above.

Influences
I'm a pop and power pop junky. Everything from The Beatles and The Who to modern pop-punk. Some bands that were really important to me are Jellyfish, Crowded House/Neil Finn, and Dada. I love a well written song. I love a song that rocks. I played out for 6 years during the 90s and loved playing STP, Screaming Trees, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and all of the Grunge scene. Bands I love (in no particular order) Jellyfish, Dada, Crowded House, Cracker, Toad, Violent Femmes, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Brendan Benson, Bad Religion, U2, Semisonic, Squeeze, Green Day, Cake, Sugar, Matthew Sweet, Tinted Windows (look them up!), Petty, Teenage Fanclub, Owsley....I'll just stop here. I love good, well written songs.
While I appreciate the talent of jam bands like the Dead, Widespread, Phish, etc ... the 15 minute song is sooo not my jam (pun intended). I love playing a well-crafted, rocking 3 minute, catchy song with harmonies. If the lyrics are quirky or smart, extra points.
