ABOUT

The reason I write is I am at the early stages of creating a charity group”MatchTips”. I’d really like to get you involved early and keep you alongside as the project progresses forward.
—————————————————————/
I go to the same bar at the same time every week. While I am there I head out for a smoke. Often times I run into those that are in need. I pass them a smoke and some conversation. I have come to think of these men as “my gentlemen”, people who have fallen on hard times.

When I am ready to depart the bar, I leave my tip and say goodbye. As I am heading home I see expensive car after expensive car. This makes me acutely aware that I live in a very wealthy area. I think back to my gentlemen living an extremely rough life. Somehow the money changing hands for tips at the bar and the conversation with the gentlemen outside got me thinking: I wonder if I could get a sponsor to match the tips of patrons to the bar staff. Those matched tips will be donated to a local charity. This endeavor will be a win-win-win for everyone involved:
1) Patrons will be pleased knowing their tips are being matched by a sponsor who cares.
2) The sponsor will be held in good regard by patrons and the public, as well as receiving advertising for the sponsorship.
3) Bar staff will catch a boost in tips from patrons
4) (Most important) Shelters and other social services will receive capital which they will then be able put to use in a variety of ways.

I call this project “MatchTips”. I hope this project will enable me to reach out to many social service needs. Homeless needs are one of the many areas that can always use assistance. The plan is likely to be focused on helping the homeless to start, but will include other options in the future. In fact, I have already put together a small project with one company. As simple as it sounds, I go for a ride in my car and hand out food, water, and clothing that was donated to me by said company.

I hope this will provide you enough information so that we can start a conversation.

MatchTips should be able to get off the ground by this holiday season. I’m going to bet that there is room for improvement within the main pitch to potential benefactors. But the real reason I write is the connections you have made all these years. Input from anyone with Insight would be a great tremendous boost to the project and my ego.

The light you carry, I hope might shine upon paths I would have otherwise not known were there.

My hope is you will be able to set out a path or direction to walk down to make MatchTips Project fulfill the needs of those in our community.

MS….Make an impact providing food/shelter/health and safety to those in need
PUBLIC ASSISTANCE….Scheduled visits to area shelters to assist the the homeless make progress within their life (job coaching, doctors, therapeutic activities, SA, AA, NA and other groups.
LETS BUILD WITH STRENGTH…. The reason I write is I am at the early stages of creating a charity group “MatchTips”. I’d really like to get you involved early and keep you alongside as the project progresses forward.
THE STORY…. I go to the same bar at the same time every week. While I am there I head out for a smoke. Often times I run into those that are in need. I pass them a smoke and some conversation. I have come to think of these men as “my gentlemen”, people who have fallen on hard times.
THE REALIZATION…. When I am ready to depart the bar, I leave my tip and say goodbye. As I am heading home I see expensive car after expensive car. This makes me acutely aware that I live in a very wealthy area. I think back to my gentlemen living an extremely rough life. Somehow the money changing hands for tips at the bar and the conversation with the gentlemen outside got me thinking: I wonder if I could get a sponsor to “match the tips” of patrons to the bar staff. 3) Bar staff will catch a boost in tips from patrons
4) (Most important) Shelters and other social services will receive capital which they will then be able put to use in a variety of ways.
BEGINNING STAGES….
THE KNOWLEDGE…. I hope this will provide you enough information so that we can start a conversation.
READERS WITH INSIGHT …MatchTips should be able to get off the ground by this holiday season. I’m going to bet that there is room for improvement within the main pitch to potential benefactors. But the real reason I write is the connections you have made all these years. Input from anyone with Insight would be a great tremendous boost to the project and my ego.
CARRY THE TORCH…. The light you carry, I hope might shine upon paths I would have otherwise not known were there.
THE COMPASS…. My hope is you will be able to set out a path or direction to walk down to make MatchTips Project fulfill the needs of those in our community.
THE SIGHT…. The plan is for “MatchTips” to start in Fairfield county at a specific bar in Westport “Walrus & Carpenter”. Eventually the plan is to make this a staple within bars/restaurants all around. The proceeds will then be passed onto a decided social service need.
ASK YOUR OLDER BROTHER…. Being that we are a new start up company, I plan on gaining assistance from some of the Gold Standard groups (Salvation Army, Goodwill, Habitat For Humanity).
CREATING AWARENESS….One of the differences between The MatchTips Project and the nonprofits mentioned above is the awareness. Awareness will be made by literally putting it on your plate. And then two, once the seed has been planted, monitory assistance maybe provided
CONVERSATION….. Truly the goal is less the money and more the awareness. The more we all discuss matters needing assistance the more opportunities and ideas will arise.
Help
NO REAL NEED FOR MONETARY ASSISTANCE…. Due to the lack of need for financial support due to the low cost of materials, initial costs will be made out of pocket.
WHERE IM FROM…. My history within the social service world is fairly focused. I have volunteered at a variety of homeless shelters. Also I spent time at Hallbrooke (a mental health hospital) as a Mental Health Worker. The Bowery Residents Committee (BRC) is the most relevant to the MT project I’m putting together. With the BRC, I worked the overnight shift with fellow outreach specialist. We would pair up in transportation vans to give those on the street in poor condition rides too shelters in NYC.
LIFTING SPIRITS…. The work load at such shelter locations consisted of showers, sort and pass out clothing, cafeteria work and administrative duties.
ON THE SIDE…. Two extraordinary positions I held were; 1) with a halfway house visiting with a gentleman (trips to the food market and coffee shop). And 2) collecting and transporting essential goods to New Orleans after Katrina.
STAFF …. At this point, my “Board” consists of friends and family. But as the MT project moves forward, the hope is to make relationships to further motions towards the goal of supplying for those in need.
GUIDANCE…. Along with a board, teaming up with successful nonprofits (as stated earlier) for guidance as how to orient my compass will further the MT Project.
CONNECTIONS….One of the best parts of the this project will be building relationships between patrons and social services and general awareness of ways and desire to lend a hand.
PIECING TOGETHER THE PARTS…. The main target to start will be to programs designated to assist the homeless [doctors etc]. Then move towards other social service needs.
REAL NOURISHMENT ….While working at Open Door in Norwalk CT I saw folks bring meals to the residents. One day it clicked in my head that the gentleman and ladies could use more than just pasta. A ‘healthy’ meal is a tremendous goal.
ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE…. For one, “All” proceeds will be designated to gentleman & ladies in need. For two, my desire for changes. For three, my good rapport with these folk will bring out ideas as to where to spend the money raised. I have great feelings for all the men & women. And they live it.
TRUE LUXURIES…. By talking to the root of the problem a greater understanding is created. As simple as a cold drink too hot coffee there are comforts that can be made with a bit of effort.
NECESSITIES …. Food/Shelter/Health & Safety are a few essentials in every life. The shelters are run as well as they can, but assistance is always welcome. Food is brought by families who feel strong feelings. Shelters are run well enough, but things are tight. Safety is a priority protected by staff, but even then not enough. Health is an area that could use some attention.
TO SUMMARIZE…. As stated earlier… awareness is at the top of the list. Followed by proceeds for the variety of needs (Food/Shelter/Health & Safety)
GOALS…. In the short term I would like “MatchTips” to raise around $7,000 dollars for a shelter in Fairfield county, In the greater long term I’d like to do the work, research and relationship making to let the MatchTips be a regular in bars in every great extent.
