I don't care for simple unless it is quiet and tight. I prefer jazz but have and will play anything, just about. I practice and play along with satellite radio. I digitally record sessions to detect my strengths and weaknesses.
I made my living playing for several years before getting married. I picked it up again around 2003.

EQUIPMENT
I have two acoustic maple drum sets (one for jazz and one for pop/rock) a Pearl Rhythm Traveler set and an electronic set. I have a load of cymbals, a rack and several cymbal stands. I have 2 PA heads and 2 sets of 15 inch speakers with horns and a mixer with compression. I have several mike stands I use for recording my drums, 2 sets of drums mics both with condensers for the cymbals.
