OPEN YOUR EYES
OPEN YOUR EYES Album: www.franksilver.com Genre: Other
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada OPEN YOUR EYES Something about a strat a la Jimi! I like this trio a lot. I liked it from bar 2. By bar 4 I usually have an opinion and these guys are no different in that respect. This band is inventive with a killer guitar player who knows how to make cool playing not just sound self indulgent, just like the Master Jimi did( and Master Eddie and ..and...and). I refer to Jimi, only because of this dude's uncanny use of a Cry Baby, but this band is not all about him. The supporting tracks were well thought out and rocked in their own write(could they be machines?)! Nice tight bass and drums, at any rate with that high tuned snare that Alex VH likes! The singer has an interesting tone and doesn't feel the need to scream to get the tune across. I LIKE THAT! What's that? A melodic band? Pretty much unheard of these days, partly because of current role models and partly because most guys don't put in the time learning what this cat knows it takes to learn how to play like that! If all of their tunes are up this alley, they will be opening lots of eyes!! I can dig it! My eyes are open and so are my ears for more! Reviewed by: lirza

FOR THE MOMENT
FOR THE MOMENT Album: www,franksilver.com Genre: Other
FOR THE MOMENT Signature Review This "Shines" I must say that opening with the solo drum (not drum solo) is an interesting choice. It worked. It immediately captures the listener and walks them right into the vocal. This is one of the better mixes I've listened to, it's even and well balanced. The tone on the guitar is exceptionally good and cutting. The guitarist performance is solid as rock and is very competently delivered. The choice of tones is very good and the texture of the mood of the piece changes appropriately as reflected in the various selections. I particularly liked the change up during the lead guitar section as having the arrangment pull back to let the lead step forward was a good idea. The vocals are pro, reminiscent of a Maroon 5 sound, yet having their own distinct flavor. The harmonies are placed appropriately and they are perfect as is. The writing is very strong, as there are enough hooks in this material to go fishing with and the listener is destined to have parts of this repeating in their head long after the listen. Overall, it's a highly polished sound in a professional package and the band seems to really have it together. It's so polished, it "Shines". Reviewed by: Kevin_White from Storrs, Connecticut
