ABOUT

I am once again looking to join or start a band. I have played with various bands for 36 years. I started playing country at the age of 14. I have been in 5 country bands, 6 classic rock bands, 5 blues bands, 1 rock-a-billy and 1 jazz band. Of all the music I have played I have enjoyed playing the blues the most because it mixes jazz and rock rhythms. To date I practice equal amounts of classic rock and blues.

As far as drummers/bands my influences have been Jerry Edmonton/Steppenwolf, John Bonham/Led Zeppelin Frank Ricoti, Status Quo, blues, Greg Morrow/Hadden Sayers, other blues favorites (not just drummers) Stevie Ray & Jimmy Vaughan, Robert Cray, Tommy Castro. I have so many influences it is hard to name them all. The all time best drummer that ever lived, Buddy Rich!

I am not a big country music fan and prefer not to play it unless we rock it. (Name one famous country drummer)? Today’s country music sounds too much like pop rock with a twang. However, not all of it is bad. My almost claim to fame came in the early 80ies, when Farrin Young’s manager heard the band I was playing with and asked if I would be interested in trying out for his band. I had enroled in college and was totally burned out with country music. Looking back I do regret not trying out for his band.

I can play cover music but would rather play with people who take a song and make it their own. In one band I was in we called it bastardizing. We had a lot of fun and the places we played people really enjoyed it.

I am a career person. I am the Director of a state advocacy organization for people with developmental disabilities. There are times I have to work a lot of hours. I work north, south, east and west from border to border across Nebraska and some times across the country. However, in the past I have been able to work around my music. If you are looking for a drummer to play several nights a week, I am not your man.

Normally, I have weekends off but there are times that I have to work on the weekend. If memory serves, 3 weekends a year. I tell people that drummers are a dime a dozen. They tell me that good ones are hard to find. I will let you decide which one I am. I take my music seriously, but the bottom line for me is that we have fun and get along with each other. I believe the love of music and fellowship should be the heart of a good band. Playing in a good band is like the love of a good woman. If you don’t have friendship then it will never last.

I am willing to travel to practice and to gig. I own two sets of drums one a jazz set the other a rock set all Ludwig. I own a small PA & microphones. If your views and taste in music is similar to mine? I would love to jam with you.
