ABOUT

DID YOU FEEL THAT? No, it wasn't the drummer, although we'd all be lost without a good one. The reason you feel the music, the reason you want to tap your feet, sway and swing, bob your head, and get up and dance is because of the bass. If I'm doing my job I'll be holding down the bottom, making you want to move, providing a musical framework for the current chord or section and leading you to the next one. My job is to provide context, a sense of movement where it's needed, and to bring out the best in the band. I've got a pretty good feel for most music and I think I can do that.

I've been playing since I was a kid, but not continuously. I can lay down a solid foundation, provide melodic accompaniment, improvise, walk, groove, and weave a bass line under most things.

I can work with just about everything: classic rock, blues, covers, jazz standards, over the top instrumentals, jam bands, alternative rock, singer/ songwriters, R&B and everything in between.

Influences

I like all kinds of music. I grew up on a lot of rock, a fair amount of jazz, and whatever else came on the radio in the 60's - 90's. I'll enjoy playing whatever if it moves and has some of these qualities: energy (even quiet energy), melody, harmony, nice harmonic rhythm, or an interesting groove.
The bass influences are too many to list, but mostly Jaco, Wooten, LaFaro, JP Jones, Jamerson.
My non-bass heroes: Pat Metheny, Bela Fleck, Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans.
Other stuff that influenced me along the way: mid-70's Jeff Beck, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Steely Dan, a lot of other stuff with strong melody or groove.
