ABOUT

Gate 1 is a group of four musicians who, due to lack of direction and dedication of their previous respective bands, came together to create a new, strong and determined hard rock unit.

At the outset of 2007, Mike, Nik, and Steve were in search of a new musical adventure. Nik came across an ad posted by TC on Craig’s list. An exchange of ideas and demos that quickly followed between the four musicians, displayed a promising potential for future collaborations. Thus, Gate 1 was born one cold weekend afternoon in February 2007.

Since March 2007, Gate 1 has diligently been writing and recording new material. In July Steve left the band due to health issues. Mike, Nik and TC decided to move on, and by October, the band has written and recorded nine original songs, along with a Rolling Stones cover. In November after auditioning countless guitar players Mike, Nik and TC invited Matt Helm to join the ranks.

With the addition of two new songs and Matt on board, the band finished recording of their debut album entitled “Maximum Pumping.” Confident in their vision of how the band should sound, the album in its entirety, was recorded and produced by Gate 1. The album was recorded at TC’s recording studio in the mountains of West Virginia, while mixing and mastering of the album was done at Nik’s in Maryland .

“With each band member having years of previous experience on the road and in the studio, recording this album was a breeze,” says Nik the drummer. TC is quick to add “The camaraderie among the four of us is unlike anything I have experienced before – we are all on the same page and get along really well." The band’s influences are quite wide, and span many different styles of music, but every member is a huge fan of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. However, although the majority of their influences might be rooted in the “classic rock” era, Gate 1 is not interested in sounding like a classic rock band. According to Mike “Our idea is to draw influence from the bands that came before us, and make it sound contemporary - something like a mix of Velvet Revolver and The Foo Fighters.”
"I'm just a huge fan of Tony Romo and that inspires me to play some mean guitar" adds Matt.
