ABOUT

Music flowed into Gene’s life minutes after he was old enough to make a sound. Being raised by parents active in the professional music scene of Chicago launched Gene into music at a very early age. Both parents sang in choral groups and his father played bass in numerous combo groups. Soon after his teen years hit, he laid down the piano and clarinet to join the rock frenzy of the late sixties.

Coming out of the garage the First Impressions rocked Ottawa Illinois to Chicago. Gene’s bass playing provided the back bone and kick-ass “corn stomping” rock of the late 60s. The Khaotics provided the opportunity to begin his lead guitar work and original compositions moving the rock and funk music to many of the Midwestern cities, campuses, and party locations. The Khaotics were a front band for many of the national bands touring the Chicago area.

Attending the DeVry Institute of Chicago, moved Gene to Chicago and back to bass which propelled him into improvisational blues with Windowface bringing an original sound to Oak Park, Aurora and downtown Chicago clubs. Not letting grass grow under his feet the next stop was Idaho and the start of Mother Oats. Mother Oats combined the rock and blues of Chicago with the country flare of Idaho. Mother Oats played a four state area for several years.

After taking time out from music, Gene entered the Seattle scene with Quarter2Blue which provided the melting pot for his unique blend of rock, jazz, blues and country guitar. A few years later after seriously studying jazz and jamming with some great Seattle jazz musicians Gene took his creative sound to Mavi, a jazz funk combo. For the past ten years Gene has played regularly in two of the hottest Seattle big bands, Mach One Jazz Orchestra and Eastside Modern Jazz Orchestra rounding playing straight up 30s – 50s swing, to contemporary jazz.
