ABOUT

Over the past 20 years actor-author Jesse Valencia ("Keep Music Evil: The Brian Jonestown Massacre Story") and his band Gorky have gone from an obscure small town indie band to dominating their home state of Arizona's music scene. Now, Gorky has come to Portland!

Our setlist will be a combo of new and old material. All significant musical contributions to recorded works by any and all band members will receive proper songwriting credit and copyright.

Gorky's sound is straight-up rock and roll with a nostalgic twist, fusing the raw energy and DIY attitude of the post-punk subculture with the catchy melodies, harmonies, and jangly guitars of psychedelic pop-rock. Our music videos have garnered tens of thousands of views, and we have over 6,000 followers on BandsInTown.

We are looking to recruit experienced players who perform with energy and are passionate about promoting and networking. Theater or screen acting experience a plus, as we will be making narrative films and music videos in addition to records and merch.

Our goal, once the band is well-rehearsed, is first and foremost to tour, and secondly to make new records and films.

Objectively the band's sound lands somewhere between Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, and The Strokes, who are all influences.

After that, bands who are not influences but whom I would consider genre peers I could see us playing with would be Ty Segall, Parquet Courts, Courtney Barnett, Temples, Haim, The 1975, Car Seat Headrest, Vampire Weekend, Palma Violets, Twin Peaks, Sports Team, Foals, Blossoms, Royal Blood, Alt-J, The War On Drugs, Bleachers, Wolf Alice, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Miles Kane, and The Last Shadow Puppets.
