ABOUT

Hi all,

I've just moved to town and I'm looking to start a new musical project. I'm hoping to get a small ensemble of acoustic musicians (if you can play an electric instrument as well, I'm game to arrange a few songs for it, but my ideal goal is to have a band that can play mostly all acoustic numbers) to play some really tight and musically interesting arrangements. Funky chords, modal scales, cool dynamic variation, syncopated rhythms and weird time signatures are highly encouraged but I have no problem with including a couple straight songs in the set too.

Covers are cool providing we give them an interesting spin but I'd like to write some tunes too. I find it pretty easy to come up with melodies and rhythms but I'm a terrible lyricist so either I'll need to find a collaborator who does write lyrics or we should be prepared to write a bunch of instrumentals.

I play upright bass, acoustic guitar (I have a steel-string, a classical, and a 12-string) and I have a Chinese instrument (a moon guitar, I am self taught and I'll admit a little limited but I'll wager I'm one of the better moon guitar players in town) with a great tone and I also have a bouzouki which is a little limited and perhaps a little gimmicky but if used sparsely it can add a great touch to a song. I can sing lead or backup or trade off with both.

Any lead, rhythm or percussion instruments, or vocalists, please feel free to get in contact. If you play guitar I'll play mostly bass and moon guitar, if you play bass, I'll play mostly guitar and moon guitar. I'm open minded for the overall instrumentation.

Unfortunately I won't have a huge amount of free time so we can't play all the time, but I can write and pick up tunes pretty quickly so if we played once a week we could get some interesting arrangements together pretty soon.

I'd love to play live at parties or open mic nights, and I'd love to record some tunes, but even if we only ever have low key jam sessions I'd call the project a success if the songs were good.
