ABOUT

I'm a middle-aged drummer based in Marietta, GA (East Cobb near Roswell). I can play a full drum set or strip it down to a cajon/shaker/tambourine for quieter settings.

EXPERIENCE:
As a kid, I played drums in school and participated in marching band, concert band, jazz band, as well as garage bands. After high school, I stopped playing for many years due to college, marriage, and kids but never lost the desire to play.

The Patriarchs (2021-present): The Patriarchs is an acoustic trio and consists of some former members of the Bruce Gibson Band. We play a wide variety of music from the 60's through today, but try to avoid playing songs that are overplayed. We look for great songs that everyone knows, but may have forgot about. We've found that our sound works well for wineries, breweries, and similar venues.

Long Time Comin' (2016-2019): LTC played music from the '60's to the '90's and described our style as "old school rock & roll." We played oldies, surf music, classic rock, and a little country. Two band members lived out of state, so we only got together once or twice a year to rehearse and play a couple gigs.

Bruce Gibson Band (2014-15): I also played with the Bruce Gibson Band (Folk/Rock/Americana) for a little over a year until the band decided to take a break. We played mostly original music from Bruce's two studio albums, but we worked on a few covers as well.

Church band (2011-present): I started playing at my church in 2011. We are fortunate to have many talented musicians that make up a vibrant music ministry and we perform a mix of contemporary and traditional Christian music. I play almost every Sunday, as well as at retreats, concerts, and other special events.

AVAILABILITY:
I have a day job and a family, so this is not something I can do full-time. However, I'd like to practice about once a week and play out occasionally.

By the way, no drama and no drugs. If that's your thing, please don't waste my time.

If you'd like to talk further to explore possibilities, call/text me at 770-856-5314 or email greg_gibbs at ya hoo dot com.

Influences

I enjoy just about any style of music, from rock to pop to country to jazz to classical.

When I was younger, my favorite drummer was Neil Peart of Rush. I still appreciate his technical ability, but my tastes have expanded a bit as I've gotten older. Now I appreciate the guys who stay in the pocket and make it sound effortless. Carlos Vega (James Taylor Best Live) and Jano Rix (Gabe Dixon Band and the Wood Brothers) come to mind. I also appreciate creative jazz/fusion drummers like Nate Smith.
