ABOUT

My name is Gregory Phifer, and i'm a native of the South Chicago area. Growing up in a musical family, I've been exposed to numerous musical and artistic ventures. At a young age, I started taking private piano lessons, shortly before taking drum set and auxiliary percussion lessons. My foundations in classical and jazz music stem mainly from here. In middle school, I began private instruction and group performance with Douglas Waddell (Lyric Opera of Chicago/Grant Park Symphony Orchestra) and his wife, Patricia Dash (Chicago Symphony Orchestra) under the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Percussion Scholarship Program. While continuing classical percussion and piano instruction, I continued studying Jazz as a member of the Chicago All-City/Jazz Links Youth Ensembles, under the direction of multiple talented, artistic Chicago Public Schools music teachers (Mark Coulter, Carlos Ayento, Madeline Mallinedo). After graduating high school, I continued my education at the University of Miami, studying music education. I received my bachelors of music with a minor in education in May 2023, and and currently withholding my teaching license process until further notice. In my experience at UM, I excelled in music theory, instrumental techniques, music technology, mixing and mastering, and several teaching aspects.
Today, I continue to offer my musical hand in varying types of percussion (Drum set, mallet percussion, auxiliary, etc.), music production and composition (approximately 8 years experience, notable arrangements for the Percussion Scholarship Program include "Danny Elfman Medley" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas"), and music production (approximately 12 years of experience with a plethora of released music and several commissioned projects)
