Israeli-born guitarist, Guy BenAmi, has been playing his guitar on stage and in the studio from the age of 14, combining technique and feel from different styles and genres to create unexpected sounds from the instrument. He has made a name for himself in the New York music scene by fusing rock and metal styles with blues, classical, and Spanish guitar embellishments.

Guy picked up his first classic Spanish guitar when his mother enrolled him in Classical and Spanish Guitar group lessons at the age of 10. Though these styles were very intriguing to him, he was drawn more to the sounds of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Joe Satriani, Randy Rhodes, Nuno Bettencourt, Dimebag Darrel, Yngwie Malmsteen, Gary Moore, and countless others blaring from his neighbor’s window. From that point forward, Guy studied techniques and styles used by his favorite solo artists, space age guitar players, and guitarists from his favorite bands. Coupled with a music major and lessons from teacher and guitar virtuoso, Erez Netz, Guy began to create his own unique sound that brought together his varied passions and musical knowledge.

After many years of playing on his own and in various bands, Guy found his true passion in teaching guitar and sharing his love for the versatile instrument with beginners and experienced musicians alike. What sets apart Guy’s teaching methods from others is his focus on exploring the entire fretboard and anticipating the next move while improvising or composing. Learning to listen carefully, breakdown the chords, and remembering scales has always been far more important to Guy than focusing on music theory and reading sheet music.

Guy lives in New York City with his dogs Brooklyn and Mini, and spends his free time restoring and redesigning recycled guitars.
