ABOUT

Seeking a few good men or women to form an Alternative/Punk-style band - my vision for the group is music that's like watching a beautiful sunset in hell.

Looking for those who have the motivation, patience, persistence, dedication, and capacity for hard work that a successful band requires. It's definitely not easy - long hours of writing, even more time rehearsing, working through things, finally playing one show after another touring (which can be exhausting), and finally hiring an attorney to review that record deal... Then, things get even more difficult. Up to the challenge?

I like building a song in layers of sonority, and live for those awesome, catchy hooks and big choruses. I write lyrics as well, and while I've been told that they're very good, it's not a process that comes easily to me - so I'd prefer it if you could write as well.

Anyway, I'm looking to create something uniquely original. I am a good co-writer in terms of the music... If you can sing that's a bonus... I am dedicated to being a road-warrior touring group (and a healthy lifestyle on the road - party after the show, not before). I'm very serious, and you should be as well. I've been in a signed group, and played hundreds upon hundreds of shows; in Chicago they've been at places from the Cubby Bear and Metro, to the Riviera, etc , I'm also credited as Merchandising Manager for Kill Hannah (on American Jet Set: s://.discogs/Kill-Hannah-American-Jet-Set/release/1209361).

-Please be under the age of 38.
-Be a good communicator (honest and open).
-Have professional equipment.
-Be able to read music.
-Have a solid understanding of song structure.
-Anility to contribute to lyrics.
-Willing to contribute to rent for a rehearsal space.
-Willing and able to tour.

Influences

I'll listen to anything, and my influences are vast and varied. I love bassists who hold down the song, and add that special something when the music allows for it (think the rumbling bass B slide up to E in London Calling). So yeah, Paul Simonon, but DeeDee Ramone was a friend of mine and he didn't think of himself as a particularly good bassist - but, I told him his playing brought a lot of energy to the music, and, he pushed the beat, making the songs move forward in an exciting way. I also love Rutger Gunnarsson - yes, from ABBA. His basslines are always interesting!

Me and hopefully YOU! And a few others too!!!

EQUIPMENT

My favorite bass is my early 1980's Hondo 880 Explorer Bass - it weighs like, 35lbs, but hey, it's extra-long scale so it rocks! 1982 Fender P-Bass, Jackson 3/4 Scale Bass, Epiphone 'Toby' Bass, Dean Edge Bass, Washburn Bass, Samick vintage 1980's bass, OLP Bass, ELP Ltd Fretless Bass, Samick 3/4 Scale Bass, Ibanez Soundgear Bass, Ampeg 1 10" practice amp, Zoom B1Four Effects, live for bigger shows I'll backline an 8 10" SVT or two. I'm always adding.... I like having a few 'stage' basses and a bunch of practice basses.
