ABOUT

involved in tha' biz since 1978 primarily as an alternative rock front man/singer/songwriter in seattle and sacramento up until 1995, when i decided to take a short sabbatical. :) it's been 10 years now and i'm looking to get back into performing, this time around preferably in an alt. country, pop country, cowpunk, texas blues, cowboy, honky-tonk or traditional old time revival band. weekend gigs and such ya' know . i figure if jack hand can find stardom at 53, i should be able to find a bunch of great folks to jam with and play small venues at least! i'll know i've died and gone to heaven (or is it hell) if i hook up with a five piece band with a real steel guitar and fiddle! really though, it would be good to start with a three piece rock group and learn lots of mutually satisfying country/rock covers. then, based upon how it goes from there, we could start writing original alt. country material together. (i already have a few tunes in the works.) that's my vision anyway. i know my way around sound systems on the stage and in the studio, and i don't mind hauling equipment, settin' up and doin' sound checks. and whiskey is used for medicinal purposes only. so git in touch w/me if yer interested here: spudsongsatcwnnetdotcom

Influences

a long list man! in the past this would have included some classic rock, punk and alternative artists. but right now my current vocal influences are: waylon jennings, merle haggard, dwight yoakam, travis tritt, faron young, red sovine, webb pierce, wayne hancock, all three hank williams - sr. jr. and the third! those are the country/hillbilly singers i like the most. right now hank 111 has totally captured my imagination with his outlaw/punk edged traditional country/western swing sound. seriously, playing some of this volatile stuff live will surely make a small town honky-tonk explode!

EQUIPMENT

i have a 58 mike and stand and a tube preamp. i'm a singer, man. and i play rhythm on my '78 guild d4 acoustic, or on my baby - a '64 harmony archtop - through a fender acoustasonic junior amp! i can sing through that fender amp too in small venues where a big p.a. is too much. and i aim for everyone to have a damn good time!
