ABOUT

In 2008, Trailer 77 front man Nathaniel Valdez evolved a side project into the up-and-coming folk act called In the Whale. Fort Collins, CO, based In the Whale draws inspiration from early 90s alt-rock—Valdez noted the likes of the Smashing Pumpkins and the Smiths—and current indie acts like Death Cab for Cutie. Valdez has already garnered widespread attention throughout Colorado’s Northern Front Range, but he said he wants to build a loyal following instead of catering to the mainstream.
“I’m not shooting for the main scene,” he said. “I’m shooting for the underground scene, like Wilco and Built to Spill.”
Expect earnest, personal songwriting and folk-rock with an alternative twist on In the Whale’s upcoming EP, Songs About You, expected to be released late August 2009. Songs About You was coproduced by Greg Heimbecker (The String Cheese Incident, Boubacar Diebate) and Nathaniel. ~Alana Curtis, Scene Magazine~
