Bass Guitar.

ABOUT

Call me a jazz guy. I’ve played guitar now for 45 years, the last 30 focused on jazz. Played everything from bars to weddings to dinner cruises to political rallies. Been in recording studios 5 times. Most of my jazz playing has been in a trio setting: -guitar, bass, drums – and this is still my preferred format though I have done a lot of duo work, been in quartets with horns, and of course worked with vocalists. Big band is not an interest, I rarely like that kind of constrained and barely improvisational work.

Stylewise I’m a modernist with 60’s and 70’s roots. Right now my interests are in performing and recording a mix of instrumental originals, Wayne Shorter tunes (eg. Dance Cadaverous, Deluge), Monk material, and to round out the guitar focus, some John Scofield, Bill Frisell and John Abercrombie. I play in all styles within this framework – swing, latin, funk, out and out rock.

I have a drummer I enjoy working with. We need to fill the bass chair. Standup or fretless electric strongly preferred. Ability to solo convincingly and read lead sheets a must. That said, Don and I are really easy going guys. It’s also really important to me that the three of us be equal parts of the creative process. Let me know if I can tell you anything more about this project.
