Influences

Like a lot of kids I originally listened to pop music handed down by my siblings in the 1970s, but when I found what I liked on the radio it was originally Billy Joel, Dire Straits, Hall & Oates.

The guitar bug bit ... I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan and Edward Van Halen, and the whole 1980's guitar thing happened. I grew up right in the thick of all of that. Vai and Satriani and Gilbert were all big influences. But when I got older and discovered Robben Ford my priorities started to change a little. I still like to make very heavy noises and try to get technical from time to time.

If it helps, my "stranded on an island with just one album" choice is King's X, probably Dogman. Lately I've been listening to Jonathan Coulton's Solid State quite a bit, and rediscovering fun stuff from the 90s that I always wanted to bang out (please see my Music section.)
