ABOUT

Jay Waltner has played bass for 35 years in genres including country, classic rock, Top 40, R&B, jazz, Southern gospel, musical theater and contemporary Christian.

Jay moved to Iowa City in February 2014. Prior to that he lived for 18 years in Sioux Falls SD, where he was most recently a member of the Andy Gibson Band, playing modern country originals and variety covers across South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and the surrounding region. He was also the charter bassist for Massive Brass Attack, a soul and R&B horn band based in Sioux City. While in Sioux Falls, Jay also performed regularly with Sound Poet, playing jazz standards, classic soul and light-pop favorites. In addition he served for 15 years on the worship team of Central Church and was the pit bassist for community musical theater productions including "Lucky Stiff", "Cinderella", and "Guys and Dolls." Stages on which Jay has performed include Sioux Falls JazzFest, LifeLight, First Night, Jam Against Hunger, Sioux City ArtSplash, Hot Biker Nights, CompassionSong, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Sioux Falls Washington Pavilion.

Before living in Sioux Falls, Jay spent 10 years recording and performing with originals and cover bands in Chicago and northern Indiana.
