Randy G. Watkins grew up in Houston, Texas.
He attended San Jacinto High School (now Houston Community College) and studied music in the music program. His private instructors were Joe Raynor and Rudy Razzo.

College: He is a graduate of the University of Houston and studied education and music.
Randy Watkins is a certified music educator in the State of Texas and Oregon.

Randy Watkins is an alumnus of the Port Townsend, WA Jazz Workshop (2007).

He is a father and grandfather and his present work includes freelance jazz drumming in the Bryan and College Station area and is the leader of the First Friday jazz band in historic Bryan, Texas. His work is also expanding out regionally.

I listen to and study other drummers as well as other musicians and instruments. My musical influences include on the jazz side, Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Joe Morello, Gene Krupa, Tony Williams, Ed Soph, Jeff Hamilton
and many others.

One the acoustic/rock side I listen(d) to Ringo, Steve Smith, Jim Keltner, Bob Wilson, Carl Albrecht and others.
