ABOUT

I got a guitar in 1990, and I started learning to play it at that time. I set it aside for many years, but as of the summer of '22 I'm trying to learn it over again. I have an instructor, I have weekly lessons, and I think I'm learning how to do it. Right now, I seek fellow novice players. Perhaps just for friendship and support, but maybe with the possibility of trying to learn/practice/play together. I'm interested in metal music, and this is what I hope to play. I think music gives performers--and listeners--a voice in this world. (I here contemplate Mother Love Bone's "Man of Golden Words.") I'd like to contribute in some small way to the conversation.

Influences

I was a lonely teen in the 80s. When i was very small, my Dad used to listen to lots of music, and he and I would often listen together. He was into stuff like Herb Alpert, The Eagles, and others. He passed away when I was 10. I discovered Metallica, W.A.S.P., Iron Maiden, and lots of punk during my high school days. I love Metal Church, and "Gods of Wrath" is a song I could play a little bit on my guitar back in the day. Discovering hard rock and heavy metal opened my horizons, and it helped me connect with other people.

The old stuff is awesome, but my influences center on more modern material. I like Morbid Angel, Deicide, Inhuman Condition, League of Corruption, Cannibal Corpse, Carnifex, Soilwork, Messugah, Gravehuffer, Mastodon, and others. The storytelling in acts like Rush stand out, but the modern heavy metal/death metal sound is what I wish to model my playing upon. As I'm learning to play, I hope to connect with some like-minded people, maybe we can learn together, maybe one day form our own band.

My callsign is KM4CCO (that's an "O" not a zero). If you want to get in touch, just search for "QRZ" on Google, find the site, punch in my callsign (KM4CCO) and you'll see my page. You can reach me from there. I would really like to connect with another like-minded local person or 2 who would be interested in working together on learning how to play! I work at a local high school, so I have time to meet up for practice and such around my school skeds.

EQUIPMENT

Gibson Epiphone electric guitar, ca. 1990.
Vox guitar amp, 50W
Also have a homebrew solid state amp (built from a 5-watt phono amp) but it's not so great, maybe better with a microphone, I dunno :-} No cabinet, just a chassis I made and a 12" speaker.
