ABOUT

Jeffrey Mince is an accomplished professional drummer with a wide variety of experience and expertise in many drumming styles including Ska, Punk, Reggae, Traditional Country, Rock, Swing, Blues, Americana, Latin, Funk, Afro Beat and Progressive Alt Pop.

He began his career as a professional drummer in high school in Colorado, and continued through college, where he majored in Music with a focus on Music Performance. During this time he played in a wide range of musical projects including Reggae and Ska bands, Indie projects, singer-songwriter projects, Salsa bands, Afro-beat bands, and many more. In addition, Jeffrey was in demand as a recording session drummer and gained invaluable studio know how and experience through consistently working in Denver area studios.

In 1999 Jeffrey left Colorado for Los Angeles and began playing with the Nina Hagen Band. For more than five years he toured and recorded with Nina nationally and internationally. Jeffrey’s experience with Nina was invaluable to his growth as a professional musician, pushing him to perform at the highest level possible, allowing him the opportunity to play many different types of music with many great musicians, and giving him the chance to play at large venues across the globe.

In 2005 a deal with Elektra records for the band Ghettoblaster drew Jeffrey away from the Nina Hagen Band. He recorded and performed with Ghettoblaster coast to coast. Jeffrey’s experience with Ghettoblaster took him into nearly every major recording studio in Los Angeles, allowing him to work with some of the most successful and acclaimed record producers, recording engineers, and music industry professionals in the business.

Four years later, Jeffrey decided to step away from music for a time, in order to reflect on his desired future, and to pursue his own spiritual development. Drawn to Buddhism as a path that provided practical methods to find and sustain inner peace, Jeffrey decided to commit himself fully. He ordained as a western Buddhist monk, and taught Buddhist philosophy and psychology full-time, until 2014, when he felt called again to play music.

Jeffrey’s experiences within the professional music arena and the ordained Buddhist community have endowed him with a unique perspective on life, and valuable skill sets. Today, his aim is to live and work in the highly creative place where these two paths of music and meditation practice converge—bringing talent, a peaceful mind and good results to every project that he is involved in.
