ABOUT

Several years ago, I played lead guitar for a band that was trying to “make it,” so to speak. However, after playing all over Texas with this band for 5 years, I decided to leave in order to pursue a more academic vocation. I’m 27, still in school, and unalterable in my belief that it is impossible to play in an original band while maintaining a respectable GPA (for me at least). Thus I’m looking for a drummer, bassist, and keys (preferably with some vocal ability although I’m well-aware that drummers who can sing are as numerous as gay Republicans) to form a cover band that is predicated upon two principles:

First and foremost, we will play songs that exemplify popularity coupled with musical merit. Despite the effluvium you hear at Sherlocks, it is possible to play music that people know without sacrificing your integrity as a musician. You don’t have to play Nickelback to appeal to the masses, they still like Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, Alice and Chains, Beethoven, etc. Music is timeless is it not?
Secondly, we will play with a Phish-like philosophy. In other words, each night every song will be played differently and always replete with improvisation. That means occasionally inserting a bass solo where it wasn’t previously or changing up the beat or whatever we can think of. If you want to hear it just like the artist did it then stay at home and listen to the CD.

I have been playing for 12 years and, therefore, I am looking for seasoned musicians w/ good equipment. I have good equipment and, although I’m not Slash, my chops are up to par. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, EMAIL ME A LIST OF 8-15 ARTISTS AND/OR SONGS THAT YOU THINK EXEMPLIFY POPULARITY COUPLED WITH MUSICAL MERIT. If I find that we have some common ground, we can coordinate a brief jam session and go from there.
