I played trombone in high school (50 years ago) concert band and in a dance band. I have not played since but my confidence is grown greatly and the shyness is gone; I actually play better now; I'm sure I could be hilarious and gutsy. I see combos playing in malls at Christmas time and think that would be fun. Or ska, I could get into that and be more committed. I'm an engineer; I could be disciplined in practice.
