John "Jumaane Face" Noel was born in Washington DC and raised in P.G. County MD. His early musical influences were Reggae, Calypso, Soca and Jazz. John's parents were from Trinidad and Tobago so they introduced him to music and he loved it. As a child he was an insomniac and in the 70’s he would try to listen to the radio late night but all the Urban stations would cut off at midnight so he would listen to the white stations and he found love for rock and pop music. He was always a fan of the electric guitar John liked Jimi Hendrix and Prince and the Isley brothers and many others in the late 70’s early 80’s. When hip hop was created Jumaane found another platform to which he fell in love with but now he can relate too also and hearing the hip hop stories of people he didn't know and places he's never been was exciting he could feel their energy it was very addictive.’ His early hip hop influences were Run DMC, Doug E Fresh, Eric B and Rakim, Grand Master Melle Mel and the Furious 5, Kurtis Blow and the Fat Boys. In the late 80’s, upon arriving to high school, his love for hip hop came out in many different ways; beating on a desk, beating on lockers, playing music and being the DJ at break dance battles and rapping in class where he met J. Mackie and they started to collaborate together. After high school the music was so much inside of him that he had to find a way to let it out. Jumaane & J. Mackie would go to his house and play around with the karaoke machine and rap. In John's own words - "Upon many failed attempts of writing a song, it wasn’t until the death of my mother (who committed suicide) that I was able to find the inspiration to start writing songs about my pain. All the songs that I have written are stories about my life and experiences that I’ve been through. My music is my “therapy” It's cool to see people dance to my pain I guess every artist/song writer comes to this reality when they become successful." Today he is the cornerstone and the anchor to Area-301 and we would like to re-introduce to the world John " Jumaane Face" Noel....
