ABOUT

Retired ship Captain from the U.S. Merchant Marine in 2014. Captainkmd57 at g mail dot com, is currently active. I played percussion in my high school band, but was introduced to guitar at age 15 and leaned more towards playing guitar after graduating. Lived in the New Orleans area since 1970 and pretty much homesteaded there as a base throughout my early teen yrs and sea going career. Jammed, gigged, and did studio accompaniments with some of the musicians and bands from the New Orleans area back in the 70's and 80's. Now comfortably retired and livin' the country life in S.E. Oklahoma, I've been devoting more time to playing music and I've met some great guitarist in the area.

Influences

As suspected, my musical influence was driven by the 60's, 70's, and partial 80's era and in a vast spectrum of tempos. I can intricately finger pick most ballads or folk songs by several artists, and in an instant step it up to power chords of rock...and all points in between. Not into the extreme heavy metal high db distortion, or any synthetic high energy dance mix. I don't find those types of sounds artistically musical, but I also don't judge those individuals who are entertained by such. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

EQUIPMENT

I have 3 acoustic guitars: Ovation Celebrety double neck 12/6-string with onboard EQ and Roland GK3 effects pickup. One vintage EKO 12-string. And one vintage Ovation classical acoustic 6-string. I have a 1974 Musicman HD130 bass amp with a quad 12 inch speaker cab, makes a great PA. I also have a Pevey Keyboard/Acoustic 300 amp with 4 independent channels of dedicated 4-band EQ. And for coffee house gigs or campfire serenades, I've got a sweet lil battery powered Roland Stereo Mobile Cube that truly rocks. For effects, I use the Roland GR20 guitar synth with my Ovation 12/6-string to obtain the sounds of any instrument desired. I run vocals through the TC Helicon VoiceLive2 with a mic splitter...two VoiceLive2's for the price of one!!! Together, I run the Ovation 12/6-string through the Roland GR20 which is inputted through the VoiceLive2 and stereo outputted to each amp. Tweak a few effects on the Roland GR20 and dial up any voice pattern on the VoiceLive2, and my one-man set up will fill any stage to the envy of some bands. I've been there, done that, with quite satisfying results.
