I can improvise with just about anything. When playing covers I try to mimic the solo as note for note as possible because even people who don't play guitar, know what that solo is supposed to sound like.

As my music knowledge and experience has grown, so has my appreciation for all the veteran players and song writes. There is no song I don't gain an appreciation for after playing.

EQUIPMENT
I have one of each, but I like the weight and familiarity of a Strat (American Elite). My current opinion is, there is no better amp for playing covers than a Line 6 Spider V MkII 120. I can generate any sound I like with a single 12" speaker in a package that weighs 30 lbs.
