Kenosis- a name very unfamiliar to most but signifies something almost everyone can relate to at some point or another. Meaning "to empty" in Greek, the idea of 'kenosis' is to discard old ideas and ways of thinking to apply new ones. Kenosis formed in 2002 with founding members Brad Barnett and Andrew Horsley. They began writing material, searching for band members, hoping to latch on in the ultra-competitive Birmingham music scene. In 2003 newcomers Jake Yeager and J.D. Henderson filled the role of guitarist and bassist, and Kenosis began gaining respect and attention from fellow Birmingham bands and music fans alike. Soon, Kenosis found themselves in the studio recording a 3 song demo, intended to just let people get a feel for what kenosis sounded like. Kenosis admits they took a strong stance to stand out and be different from other Birmingham bands. In 2004 after 8 months in the band, J.D. packed his bags and headed for the plains of Auburn, and kenosis was in search of a new bassist. Our good friend Nick Jackson was just starting on bass and had been playing guitar for about 2 years, so he agreed to step up and fill the role of bassist. The 2005 year looks bright for Kenosis as they are releasing a 5 song demo that was completely self-recorded and produced in their own full recording studio. With a fresh release on the way, Kenosis looks to impress everyone from the everyday music fan to the harshest music critic. Describing their sound includes throwing in bits in pieces of Smashing Pumpkins, Incubus, Radiohead, Weezer, Flickerstick, Mars Volta, The Police, Interpol, the Pixies and adapting it to a style new and fresh to the Birmingham scene. Kenosis has played with many famed local acts such as Halfdown Thomas, Malicy Drive, Abeyance, The Influence; and has played nightclubs such as The Nick, Brothers Bar, The High Note, The Arena, and more.
