ABOUT

Growing up on 68th street in Kansas City, Missouri, during one of the biggest era's of rock cocaine, Khalid Rasheed, aka Kokoaleaves, learned far too early in his childhood that life was a struggle. At just the young age of 9, his father left the home and Kokoaleaves was informed that he was the man of the house, ending a childhood that so many of us took for granted. A victim of poverty, he quickly determined that he wanted what he didn't have. KhalidRasheed began criminal activity at the age of 12 because in his young eyes, the bills needed to get paid and with drug abuse so prominent and not one person to take the reins as his mentor, he quickly fell prey to the jungle that surrounded him. As the man of the house, he assisted in taking care of responsibilities which meant regardless of how it was obtained, money was a necessity. He hustled and provided for his home, enjoying the ability to take his sister shopping or making sure that food was on the table. Eventually street life caught up with him and he would end up doing time in prison. He is currently listed as a three time felon for crimes such as possession and manufacturing of crack cocaine, second degree burglary and attempted forgery. Even with three strikes against him, this young man refused to quit and in fact he took the time that he had in prison to read and study. “I had nothing but time. I thank my grandmother for teaching me to read and write. You have to correct yourself in prison, it wont correct you.” While incarcerated, he converted to the Muslim faith and managed to teach himself Swahili, Arabic, French and Italian. Upon release from prison, he knew he needed and deserved better. He quickly obtained a job and began a mission to remain productive and not repeat the same mistakes. Kokoaleaves music is consistent with a a self-proclaimed terminology called “Street Religion”. He has a realism in his words that makes every bit of what he raps about very true to the life that he has both seen and lived. Kokoaleaves believes that he is successful because he has the ability to “think outside the box”. He never shuts his thought process down. “I just keep going, I don’t ever stop thinking.” “I'm not a rapper, it's just something that I do in addition to other things.” When KhalidRasheed is not working on his CD entitled “Street Religion,” he can be found working on his virtual Magazine, “Pulse the Magazine.” He is CEO of SilverbackRecords, is planning the launch of his Energy Drink called”Ape Juice” and has a clothing line called SilverbackRecordsClothingLine,an DimepeseClothingCo. Kokoaleaves like is currently writing movie scripts. To branch off into acting and I'm working on my autobiography that will coincide with the Street Religion CD.” Inspired by life and people, KhalidRasheed takes time out of his busy schedule maintaining two jobs so that he is able to help those in his community. He feeds the homeless, is involved with the Big Brother's Big Sisters organization and shares his story with young people encouraging them to not follow in his path. KhalidRasheed, who once felt as though he was just a product of his environment, has made the decision to be the best at anything that he touches. This young man has proven that no matter how bleak a situation may seem, you can always take a negative situation and make it positive, a theme that Kokoaleaves now surrounds his lifestyle around.
