Hi everyone, I'm a Portland-based singer-songwriter in the folk tradition. I also enjoy playing folk-rock, folksy pop, singer-songwriter (whatever that is!) classic country and occasionally gospel. I write my own songs and accompany myself on acoustic guitar. You can hear some music at .kiralesley or ./kira-lesley. I have an EP out and I have played in local venues and festivals as well as a few gigs in the Northeast. I am trying to put together a band - or at least loose collective of musicians that can come together for local area shows. I'm very serious and dedicated to being a career musician, but I feel limited in what I can do as a solo performer. I want a bigger, fuller sound for live shows (and possibly recording and touring down the line). At the very least I'd like to find people to split bills with, collaboration would be even better. Of course, I am also willing to contribute to your music or play songs you're interested in.
I haven't done much in the way of arrangement or writing parts for other instruments so I welcome improvisation and people bringing their own ideas to my music. In other words, I am not micro managing. But I am responsible and serious. I'm happily married and I don't drink or use drugs. I don't mind if other folks indulge responsibly but don't want to work with hard partiers. Let me know if you think you might be a good fit for my music. I should note, when I play live shows I like to throw in covers as well, which could be anything from Buddy Holly to Fairport Convention to Johnny Cash. I'm working on learning some songs from America and the Flying Burrito Brothers.
