ABOUT

I am looking to form/join a duo, trio or quarter that gigs and has fun. I am an early retiree, well adjusted, happily married, serious musician who is new to the A2/Dexter music scene. I don't know that many musicians in the area.

I have gigged often and would like to be in or lead a small band that focuses on vocal jazz, pop, blues and some R&B. I'd like to practice once a week and gig 1-3 times a month. I have no aspirations to tour, no desire to be playing in a bar at 2 am, travel to festivals around the state nor do I perform for the money, but I do want to be paid and make great music. I'd like to have a long term relationship with my band mates, but I realize that comes over time and with success.

I play piano/keyboard and sing. I have studied jazz piano with an MSU professor and others. Music is a serious hobby for me and I have run a vocal jazz group (think Norah Jones / Diana Krall style) in Naples, FL where we did 30-40 gigs each season at country clubs/restaurants/charity events for 5+ years - over 150 gigs in total. I also have been studying voice. I split my time between Florida (Orland area now) and Dexter Township.

I would prefer a female singer as the combination male/female is great. If you haven't sung much jazz/lounge/R&B type music, no worries, we can make it work. It may seem trite, but I would like someone who shows up and is easy to work with - I will be the same. We all have egos and personalities - a band is just a special kind of team. In my professional life I was a partner in a large partnership and I am comfortable working in a partnership model. My last band was together for over 5 years and I am sure someone out there is a good fit.

If you play an instrument, even better!

I have some experience in song writing and could do more originals, but to date most of my work has been covers with real musicians - no tracks, no auto-tune, no appregiators.

I have exceptional technology skills and have used them to record and mix live gigs. Also, I have been using SoundJack, JamKazaam and Jamulus to practice live with others on-line so that we can get together despite Covid.

If your interested shoot me a message and we'll get together on-line, possible in person and practice once/twice and decide if there is a good fit. No commitment other than to give it a try. In my experience, this is a long-term project, not a sprint.
