ABOUT

I'm a strong bass player and singer seeking other responsible grownups to perform music in front of live audiences. I can read music, charts, and tab. I understand music theory and the importance of timing and dynamics. I'm up for just about anything, really: a duo or trio lounge act, a power trio, a fully-instrumented cover/dance group, a tribute band. Looking for big fun and low stress.

Bass players tend to fall into a few different categories -- the soloist, the frustrated guitarist, the technical wizard, and the pocket/groove player. I'm the latter. I add and play tasteful bass lines to reinforce the rhythm and fill out the sound. While I am very technically proficient, and list a number of technical wizards among my influences, I firmly believe in holding down the bottom end, being in sync with the drums, and not competing with the guitars and vocals for prominence. It's all about the groove!

My one caveat:I have a full time professional job that pays well and requires overnight travel a couple of times per month. If you're looking to routinely gig 3 nights per week, every week, or play gigs outside the immediate Denver/Boulder/Springs area, my "real" job commitment won't accommodate that on a regular basis.

Influences

I'm influenced by music and musicians that are inventive, original and thoughtful. I am an unapologetic Beatle-maniac. On bass, I admire or have been influenced by Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, Chris Squire, Sting, John Paul Jones, Noel Redding, Doug Pinnick, Jaco Pastorius, Tom Hamilton, John Taylor, Carol Kaye, many others.

As a child of the 60s/70s/80s, I love basically any and all rock from that era, including but not limited to New Wave, Punk, Funk, Classic Rock, Southern, Progressive, Hard Rock, British Invasion, Surf, etc.

Bands that spring to mind: the Beatles, Cars, Blondie, the Police, the Clash, Devo, Led Zep, Stones, Tubes, Elvis Costello, Sex Pistols, the Knack, King's X, Yes, James Brown, George Clinton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ELO, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Parliament/P-Funk, the Producers, Aerosmith, the Alarm, Black Crowes, Blues Traveler, Bryan Adams, Cheap Trick, Queen, Beach Boys, Hendrix, Rush, Social D, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Supergrass, Talking Heads, Van Halen, AC/DC, etc etc etc.

In other areas, I've been listening to a lot of Buddy Rich lately -- big band swing! And I love jazz: Miles, Trane, Mingus, Monk, Blakey, Stan Getz, etc.
