ABOUT

I am looking for an experimental project involving female vocals and instrumentation to target a specific style and genre of Progressive/Jazz music and/or Space Rock.

I enjoy suspenseful incidental music from old horror movies and TV shows - I am trying to incorporate '60s psychedelic Jazz with Horror and Spy music. Think Spiderman cartoon from the '60s with Hammer Horror films and the Outer Limits.

I would like to have two female vocalists that can play one or more instruments like Bass, Keyboard, Violin or Guitar so that the sound is not compromised. This will give the band more flexibility in what can be achieved in a live setting.

Each Vocalist can take on individual songs that feature their particular style or sound but I would like the two vocalists to also sing together in most situations in a Call and Response fashion or even simultaneously. At times, the vocals can be separated by an octave depending on the range of the singers.

In some situations the vocals will be similar like a double track; at other times, the voices will be distinctive.

At least one of the vocalists should also be able to cover heavier vocals for more Rock-oriented pieces.

The vocals will range from pure sounding like Renaissance to ballsy and bluesy like Deep Purple.

The actual instrumentation and personnel is not as important as just achieving a unique sound and being able to pull off that sound live.

This will evolve in to an Original endeavor but covers will come from influences like Yes, King Crimson, Gong, Hawkwind, Soft Machine, Earth and Fire, Stereo Lab, Portisehead and My Bloody Valentine. I envision a lot of instrumental moody passages, even playing well-known noir-type theme songs from old TV shows.

I am open to other sounds as well, like Space Rock and Ambient Electronic.

I can see a Hawkwind/Steve Hillage/GONG type of band, or, a Pulsar/Ash Ra Temple/SFF/Heldon sort of thing.

I am also open to a Portisehead/My Bloddy Valentine kind of band or a '60s Acid Blues/Psychedelic sound.

We will know what works once the people are assembled and playing music together.

The music has to be big and powerful.

My originals span all genres of music - please take a listen to see the possibility of directions we can take:

EQUIPMENT

I have guitars and amps. I also have a keyboard that I use for recording and a Mellotron that doesn't work so well.

Update: In 2012, I sold the Mellotron and purchased a NORD Electro 3 for most of my keyboard work. Other keyboard work is accomplished with a Roland controller plugged in to a Roland MC-303.

I use a BOSS BR-1600 for recording.
