I'm new to the western Michigan area. I've been developing my chops in western Kansas for the last 3 years, and for 6 years in southern Illinois before that. I'm originally from northern Indiana, where I first started playing out. I consider playing music a serious (possibly "intense") hobby. Currently I teach high school math. Since teaching is my primary source of income and it pays the bills, making money from playing music does not have to be a priority. And I would prefer it not be the number 1 priority in any group I play with (number 2 or 3 priority would be just fine). I made my attempt at music as my primary career path and source of income--and it didn't work out and made playing music less enjoyable. Now I'm looking forward to finding some talented musicians to work with on crafting some great songs and "jamscapes", with the understanding that a normally functioning person has a life outside of the band.

I have gigging experience with 3 bands--1 metalcore band (all original), 1 rock band (all original), and 1 classic-modern rock & pop cover band. Doing covers is really fun, especially when it's done in an alternate genre from the original or as some type of mash-up. But I miss writing and collaborating with other musicians to create original music. I would love to play with musicians skilled enough to seamlessly (for the most part) incorporate improvisation into well-structured songs. I'm very familiar with all the modes/scales in different keys, and can figure out most rhythm and solo parts by ear. The primary source of enjoyment I get from playing music is through improvisation. I love playing a good, tasty guitar solo, and would love to do complex harmonies with a keyboardist and another guitarist.
