ABOUT

Profile updated on 05/02/2020

I am a professional drummer/percussionist with many years of experience playing live, touring, and recording. I have played in venues ranging from small neighborhood bars up to and including 50,000+ seat arenas, and have recorded drum tracks on everything from commercial jingles, corporate motivational videos, to a multiple-GRAMMY-nominated album with worldwide distribution and sales. My drumming is on THIRTEEN released albums to date, but rather than slowing down my pace, I’m on track to release at least four (and possibly six) more albums in 2019 and 2020! Two of them were released in May, with at least two more on track for release in early 2020. UPDATE; The Country/Americana album “Trouble In Town” by Wild Rabbit Salad was released worldwide on February 21, 2020. I played drums on this entire project.

I own plenty of gear with road cases (see my equipment list) and have my own transportation. I have a strong work ethic, with no drug or alcohol problems, no personal “baggage”, and I’m a “team player”. I can read music, so I’m able to play from charts. I also have extensive experience playing to backing tracks and a click track, both live and in the studio. I show up ON TIME, PREPARED, AND READY TO WORK.

Playing drums is NOT my hobby, it’s my full time job. Between playing live gigs, recording and teaching, I do try to keep a pretty full schedule, so my time is valuable and I try to use it wisely. If you’re serious about the business of making music, please read my bio with my discography and equipment list, listen to my audio samples from some of the albums I’ve played on, watch my videos, look at my photos, scroll through my performance calendar and see if I might be a good fit for you and your project!

If you’re looking for a drummer to play on a “one-off” project, I can accomodate you, my Work-For-Hire agreement is available on request.

My Bio;

"Marty Naul is a native Texan, born in Ft. Worth and living there as well as Midland and Houston. His music career started the usual way, playing in various "garage" bands, each one better and more talented than the last. These bands also started playing "professionally" while Marty was still in high school. Marty joined Duane and Bill Massey in Oz Knozz (pronounced oz ka-nozz') in May of 1971, when original drummer Jack Alford decided to pursue another profession. Marty and Duane went to high school together in Houston and attended college together at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Tx., where they both majored in Music. Marty has been part of every Oz Knozz project since he joined in '71, including live shows and recording projects, such as "Ruff Mix" in 1975, the EP in 1981, the long-awaited CD "10,000 Days & Nights" in 2008, and the GRAMMY-Nominated 2012 CD release, "True Believer".

Like most of the other "OK" members, Marty has played in numerous other projects, both Original and Cover Bands, with and without Oz personnel involved, (Hi Fi, Hit And Run, Chameleon, Midnight Circus, Evolution, Saltwater Flys and others), and has many years of experience playing and recording a variety of musical styles. However, it is Oz Knozz that seems to be the "glue" that holds this group of musicians together.

During the years from the late 1970's to the 1990's and on into the 21st Century, Marty and Oz Knozz did extensive touring, opening for the likes of Peter Frampton, The Producers, Bloodrock, Canned Heat, Supertramp, Kansas, Point Blank, Judas Priest, Spinal Tap, Mark Farner, Jackyl, UFO, Queensryche, Tesla, Survivor, Blue Oyster Cult, and many others. During this time, Oz Knozz also headlined many of their own shows, at one time traveling with a full concert entourage, including a portable 32' x 32' stage, concert PA and lighting system, and a large road crew to set everything up!

In March of 2009, RadioIndy awarded Oz Knozz “Best Independent Rock Release of 2008” for the CD “10,000 Days & Nights”.

In March of 2012, Oz Knozz was signed to a Multi-Year, Multi-Album contract with Prog Rock Records ( http://www.therecordlabel.net/pop-rock/oz-knozz/ ) and on June 5th, released the CD "True Believer". In the fall of 2012, "True Believer" was listed on the GRAMMY Nomination Ballot as many as NINE TIMES in SIX different categories!

Late in the summer of 2012, Marty, along with other members of Oz Knozz, was inducted as a Full Voting Member into the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the governing body that oversees the GRAMMY Awards,
( http://www.grammy365.com ).

Marty is also a member of ASCAP ( http://www.ascap.com ) a Performance Rights Organization (PRO) that collects and disburses mechanical and performance royalties in the "Terrestrial Domain" (Broadcast Radio, TV, Motion Pictures, etc.) and Sound Exchange ( http://www.soundexchange.com ), a PRO that collects mechanical and performance royalties in the Digital Domain (Internet Streaming, Satellite Radio, etc.). These organizations have reciprocal agreements with PRO's around the world.

In June of 2014, Marty auditioned for John Sellers, a well-known singer/songwriter/pianist in the Praise/Worship music genre', and Marty was asked to be the drummer on John's next CD/DVD project, as well as being the live drummer for the follow-on tour! Recording sessions for this CD were commenced on January 31st, 2015. The album will be produced by none other than Mike Deasy (www.mikedeasy.com), and horn arrangements will be done by THE Jim Horn! (www.jimhornmusic.com) Marty did play for the CD release concert on June 23rd 2018, but left the band shortly thereafter, in order to concentrate on his other endeavors.

As if all this isn't enough, on February 13th, 2015, the Symphonic Rock band Worhol announced that Marty had joined the group, in time to start rehearsing for their Spring/Summer tour, which took the band to Florida in May. After returning from Florida, Worhol started rehearsing for a tour of the Western United States, which occurred in late October and November of 2015.

In July of 2015, Marty and his band Worhol, were featured in the "Emerging Artist" Section of the July 4th, 2015 issue of "Billboard" Magazine. In addition, Worhol appeared in a Full Page Spread in the July/August issue of "Revolver" Magazine, and was also inteviewed by "Metal Onslaught" Magazine (
http://www.metalonslaughtmagazine.com/interview-with-worhol ). Furthermore, Worhol has been reviewed in the September/October issue of Fireworks Magazine (Issue #71) and has had a multi-page article appear in "Katy" Magazine of Katy, Texas. These were the first steps in a summer-long media blitz to promote the band and its upcoming tour of the Western United States, beginning in late October, 2015.

On April 22nd, 2016, Worhol announced that they are being sponsored by Squeezed Detox and Cold-Pressed Juices. Please see the copy of the Press Release below;
