Baltimore Musicians
Baltimore is home to several famous musicians like Billie Hoilday who is considered of the greatest female jazz singers. Baltimore even has its own genre of music known as Baltimore Club. Baltimore Club is a combination of house, dance and hip-hop music which came about in the early 90s. Another popular event is the Whartscape Festival. Whartscape Festival is a new festival in its second year held at Wham City in Baltimore. The three day music fest features over thirty bands including local Baltimore favorites like Dan Deacon, Beach House, and Spank Rock. Baltimore is also home to The Peabody Conservatory of Music which is the oldest music school in the U.S.
8X10 is a popular bar offering local and national rock bands that gather more than 400 person crowds. The Ottobar is host to local musicians as well as national touring acts of the indie, rock, and punk persuasion. The Ottobar’s upstairs feature live jazz music and ends the night with DJs. Fletcher’s appeals to Rockers and Indies alike, booking regional and national acts in its upstairs venue.
