Michael began playing guitar in 1981 at age 16 Eugene Oregon. Mostly self taught, he teamed up with musician/guitarist Greg Glass to form the Rock Group "Stranger"..The group "Stranger" played many club engagements through booking agents from Pacific Talent in Portland Or.
Later he collaborated with Bassist Todd Anson to write original material, and, form the group "Axiom".. Axiom wrote and performed all orignal material.. They played club engagments, and recorded two Ep's at Gung Ho Studios in Eugene Oregon.
Michael took up the Bass as a second instrument in 1997..
He began the music program at Lane Community College in 1998.. He studied Classical and Jazz Double Bass with Nathan Waddell.. As a student in the LCC program Michael earned the most improved instrumentalist award in 2002..
Michael served as bassist for the Lane Jazz Band for one year. Played in the The Lane Chamber Orchestra and worked in numerous Jazz Combos..
In 2002 Michael began attending the University of Oregon..
He studied in the Jazz Studies program under director Steve Owen. He studied Classical String Bass with Tyler Abbot and Jazz Bass with Dave Captein..
As a bassist Michael worked with percussionist and director Randall Larson in his group; Island Jammin (Steel Drum and Marimba Band).. Actors Cabaret with Jim Greenwood in numerous shows and later went on to work with Kenny Reed in his group "Stone Cold Jazz.". In 2006-7 he worked with Greg Glass and David Boyer in their group "The Greg Glass Project" For a short period of time..
After a sabbatical to set his personal affairs in order.. Michael is currently beginning work on a Jazz Bass solo project which will include a few arrangements of his favorite jazz standards. It will also feature some fine jazz musicians from the greater Willamette Valley Area for collaboration and accompaniment..
