I am looking to find other musicians with similar music tastes within a reasonable driving distance to play live music on occasion.... but more often, I would like to get together to play music online. YES - IT WORKS!
With the right set up and if you're in the same time zone w/ fellow bandmates, it sounds like you're in the same room with no latency. I use a program called Sonobus and another one called JamKazam. Google them or reach out for more information! I plan on writing more about this in the near future.
