ABOUT

I am 61 years old. My contact number is 260-466-9009. Bass guitar is a recent new interest. I play for several local church bands in the area. Started with bass in 2014 practicing and learning to read music sitting in a local coffee shop. Started playing Contemporary Christian Music with local church groups in 2016 and switched to 6 string bass in 2017. Keeps me busy playing every weekend! Got good experience in overcoming stage fright, locking in with a drummer, and getting used to the dynamics of being in a band. Current Worship bands I play bass for are the groups Life Song-CCM, King's Strings_CCM-Folk and Jubilant Fields-Bluegrass at Saint Michael's Lutheran, Ft. Wayne, IN and the group Golgotha-CCM at Mt. Calvary, Lutheran, Ft Wayne, IN. I have played bass for the River Church, Ft Wayne, in 2016. Would like to expand my experience and play bass in a Pop, Rock, R&B or Celtic music band. Present project is learning the bass lines to the band Chicago via standard notation transcription scores. Love the 70's horn bands!

Influences

My influences range from the 50's to the present (top 100) in Pop Rock (I have the Hal Leonard decade series sheet music books for Pop 1950's to 2010), the Cherry Lane Most Requested Songs series books for 60's, 70's and 80's and 90's, and the Hal Leonard Decade series sheet music books for Country 1950's to 2010's). I am more a rock n roll kind of guy. Influences are Carol Kaye, Sir Paul MacCartney, James Jamerson, Sting, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Jaco, John McVie, and Billy Sheehan just to name a few.... old school lol! I am a work at it until I get it right kinda of guy. I believe in learning song bass lines before I come to rehearsal because when you have to play every weekend, you don't have time to waste learning music for performance. I get 1 or 2 rehearsals and then it is showtime. As the bass player, I have to be there locked in with the drummer to provide that low end foundation that the vocalists, guitarists, pianists etc. rely on to pull the song together. If bass and drums are off, it is a train wreck for the whole band.

EQUIPMENT

Gear is important but the priority is learning to play my instruments well, read music, tabs and charts, develop technique, master scales, and chord progressions, etc. My equipment is basic for an entry level club package musician : Ibanez GBV-36 six string Gerald Veasley Bass , Ibanez SR-1200 Premium Bass, Ibanez SR-400 Sound Gear Bass and a Hofner Ignition Beatle Bass for a woody retro thump sound when needed. Amps are an Ibanez Promethean series P-3110 bass combo 300 W single 10". (practice/ rehearsals/ small venues), a Tascam GB-10 Practice unit and Tascam GT-R1 Practice unit, a VOX Amp Plug and a Boss e-band JS-10 Guitar/Bass Trainer (love this unit) for bass practice and/or recording and learning new music. Also have a Boss ME-50B bass effects pedal unit. My main stage amp is a Hartke LH-1000 watt bass amp head, with a Hartke Hy Drive HX-410 1000 watt bass cab, and Hartke Hy Drive HX 115 500 watt bass cab and G-Pro @U-19 Rack Case for the amp head. Both cabs have LED music synced lights installed and triggered by the bass signal from my instrument via the output of my effects pedal. The duel 500w bridgeable to 1000w amp head w/xlr out /cab combination gives me the flexibility to play at any event large or small running one or both a HY-Drive HX-410 8 ohm cab and/or HY-Drive HX-115 8 ohm cab (combined 4 ohm load max 1000 watt) and/or DI out via a XLR cable into a PA if needed. Also, I have a 4 page Conductor Music Stand, bass guitar stand, 3 LED music stand lights, guitar cables, audio cords, tabletop music stand with standout extensions,100' XLR M/F cable (bass to mixer board/PA) , two Speak-On cables (Bass to Cab and Cab to Cab bridge mode) and a passive DI box (bass to mixer board/PA), Looking into wireless in-ear monitor (Galaxy AS 1100) and a wireless instrument device (Line 6 G50). Also, considering purchase of a 5 string acoustic bass to use in performing folk/Celtic/Bluegrass music.
